Our Story

The seeds for Growing Minds Collective were planted during Charli Bockelman’s first years in early childhood centers. While observing the daily operations of standard childcare, Charli noticed a recurring gap: many environments were functioning on "autopilot," where caregivers acted as warm bodies rather than active mentors. She saw how a lack of intentional interaction, the absence of strong redirection, and the oversight of purposeful play invited chaos into a child’s world.
Driven by the belief that children are our future and deserve more than the bare minimum, Charli made it her mission to provide specialized, high-quality care that met every child’s unique developmental needs—whether it was a six-week-old infant needing security or an eleven-year-old seeking mental stimulation.
Over the past five years, Charli’s journey evolved from the classroom to leadership. Now, as a manager overseeing a staff of 24, she has mastered the art of creating "calm through coordination." She realized that by establishing dedicated zones—from creation corners to imaginative play spaces—and implementing structured regimens, we can create safe havens where children naturally thrive.
Growing Minds Collective was born from a pivotal realization during Charli's time at Old Dominion University: her years of experience as a nanny, caregiver, and coordinator held value that many parents—especially those doing their best to figure it out for the first time—desperately needed. Inspired by the quote in her office to "be the change you want to see in the world," Charli transformed her personal portfolio into a resource hub. Today, the Collective offers the expertise of a seasoned manager to the families and caregivers who are ready to break old patterns and build a resilient, structured, and joyful foundation for the next generation.
